Selmer is a very special Tervuren indeed. As a puppy his breeder called him “a pleaser” and that has carried with him all the way through to today. Selmer is sweet and warms up to everyone he meets. I say, ’he meets’ because he quite often initiates the introduction. It is common for him to lean against a stranger standing next to us, look up, and seem to say, “Hello. I’m Selmer and you are….?” Everyone who meets Selmer is taken with his gentle friendliness. Selmer warms up to all ages and people in wheel chairs are at the perfect height for his head to lie gently in their laps as he gets attention.
His favorite thing to do is work sheep. I am such a novice at this and I get frustrated with all I have to remember, but the look on Selmer’s face sometimes is “I’ve got your back” as he keeps his eye on the direction of the flock. He covers beautifully and several people watching him work have told me that he’s an honest dog. I have no clue what’s going on, but there he is keeping the group together and covering as I travel from obstacle to obstacle. I correct him and he stands their looking at me and looking at the sheep and my trainer yells, “Leave him. He’s covering.” That’s my boy.
